I generally like your essays, but this narrative seems force fitted around the bedsheets and feels like an advertisement

I actually think otherwise, as a writer myself, the pay for writers isn't too great, and to earn a livelihood through substack is definitely hard

So I think an endorsement here or there really makes sense for milk and cookies to keep churning out the amazing content that touches us everyday

Exactly, she deserves to make a living off of her amazing work!

A good advertisement, especially when not disclosed as an ad, shouldn’t smack you in the face but be subtle. The product placement was anything but.

This is HER page. Advertisements are a well known part of content making. It’s not that deep, she deserves to make her money.

No one is saying that she doesn’t deserve to make money! Just make a better ad!

I didn’t mind the first mention of percale sheets and I even clicked the link because I love percale sheets but when it was mentioned three times then I started feeling duped asking myself “does she really believe what she’s saying or is this an advertisement?”

She did a collaboration with a company that she aligns with and utilizes in her life. This still requires her to use her own voice and creativity to create this post. It’s not that deep!

This is clearly an ad. It's insulting actually, so much so that I'm exiting subscription. I don't make it my business to pay influencers.

I really love more than just your writing… it’s like an entire way of being. And if an endorsement of something that has helped you curate such a life I’m happy for you to share and further support more creative writing for all of our benefit.

Agreed. I don't mind well made sponcon but would appreciate if that's noted at the top

Multiple ads in an article is hilariously stupid. How am I supposed to take this seriously if every other “ritual” I’m being reminded to order the newest and greatest product? Ridiculous.

I sadly have to agree with the conment by Nithya above…

I read all your posts because I can connect with them but my heart sank when I read this one.

I stopped using Instagram ages ago, partly due to the contributers I followed becoming ‘ influencers’, posting narrative and images of products that they’d been gifted by companies.

This post did feel forced around product placement sadly…

What I love most is how you've deconstructed the mythology around earning comfort. The line "comfort isn't a luxury it's a basic human need" should be printed on billboards.

I was really enjoying this article and the picture you created until you started advertising with embedded links.

Love the sentiment about being difficult to reach. It’s not coming from a place of ignoring people but just taking some quiet time for yourself

I love the idea behind this weekend morning ritual, and I also like that you mention being a mum, but this feels so out of reach for me with my three year old! I'd love to know how kids fit into this routine for you! 💜

I stopped making my bed on the weekends altogether. I love my home feeling well lived in and not so overly done and made up.

I latched onto nearly every word of this post. Thank you for the gentle reminder that it's not only okay--it's necessary--to tune out at times in order to tune into ourselves. I hadn't thought of my bed as a safe, soft landing space when the world feels sharp, loud, and dissonant. Coincidentally, I just happened to order a new sheet set this morning, and I look forward to crafting a sanctuary of my own with the inspiration of your rituals!

Advertisement, or no advertisement, I think everyone's missing the point! The bed sheets are a symbol of warmth and comfort, maybe you can treat yourself to a fresh set! I loved this piece and it felt genuine. A how-to guide on what most of us forget to do - to simply exist.
