Thank you for writing this. One of the most tender gifts I have been given is sharing my jumbled thoughts with someone who is eloquent in speech, and be embraced. Seeing past the language and validating the feelings is a great display of generosity. Language is a privilege.

This is so beautiful and so needed; I’ve never seen myself so well captured in a piece of writing. Thank you

It’s incredible when writing meets us exactly where we are. You said it perfectly.

You stepped inside my brain I see. How ironic to write such a beautiful piece about the battle of language & expressing our truth in the messy ways. Always appreciate your real honesty.

The irony I feel as a writer who’s told writes pain so well but grieves in silence has found its place in here!

I wonder if you saw the irony as you beautifully wrote this piece, that being so articulate is something you yourself are seeing as too polished to be genuine. Maybe the devils advocate role can be overplayed, and in writing rather than speaking there is much more time to say exactly what you mean, follow the thread of an argument to a distant conclusion and maybe even change your mind by the end of your writing!

There’s room for all kinds of communication, I don’t think it’s usually a bad thing for a person to speak clearly and be fully understood by others

You made me feel like a Band-Aid had been ripped off, followed by gorgeous prose. So real. So raw. So beautiful. Thank you. I wonder how long it took you to compose and if you felt some kind of irony in your writing about it🙏🏾. LOVE.

"...it means getting to the end of the story and realizing you’re not ready to tell it yet...maybe the point is just to say it. or to say nothing until we’re ready. or to be surrounded by people who can hear us, even when we don’t have the words." THAT PART 🎤⬇️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Bless you sister for always naming all that thangs.🫶🏾🌻🌞🌿

Most of my traumas are from an age in which I couldn’t speak. How often did I find myself in therapy sessions in a situation when “I just simply had no word for that”, “I feel it, but I cannot explain”. Thanks for this ❤️. Your words speak to that part of me, saying it is ok to be who I am.

this is a phenomenon i have been reckoning with my entire life, the constant reckoning with not having the words to articulate my thoughts, opinions, and emotions, and thereby intellectualizing every aspect of myself. the personal undermining that occurs whenever my diction and formulation of speech does not match what i perceive to be intelligent enough to be heard. not worthy of a second listen. what a profoundly important highlight for us writers. thank you for sharing this, i feel immensely seen. 🖤

This made me think, thank you! I get to see both sides of the coin. As a counsellor and writer, words are incredibly important, in those communicating with me, but also in my response. When I paraphrase their experiences with the 'right' words - I see their eyes light up, the burden of carrying it alone rolls off their shoulders "you get it!" they exclaim.

However, face-to-face therapy is here to stay because often the most powerful part of this is the eye contact, the silence of companionship that surrounds the moment, sometimes the words are so irrelevant to this that they are forgotten as soon as they are spoken, but the feeling remains.

Thank you for the prompt for this reflection, very moving!

Bravo. Exactly this. There’s a lot of pain behind every curated word. It’s like a mirror for me.
