Super needed articulation. And I would love to see this as a greater shift in our current culture. I’d love to see it become the norm, not the glorified grind, crash, and burn.
Loved it! In the last years, I've been struggling to find balance between my daily life's demands and my mental and physical health. Unfortunately, it was only after experiencing some difficult setbacks that affected my overall health that I reached the same conclusions you described.
This is such a great guide. It articulates everything so perfectly. I am currently on my journey to prevent burnout and take care of myself, so I’ll refer to this when I need it 🥰 thank you!!
I loved this!! Especially scheduling in down-time. I build my relaxation time into my schedule at the start of the week, and I treat it as if it's as unmoveable as my work or classes!
Yes! All of this! But especially #6 and that line about "when you start treating rest as fuel instead of a luxury, you realize you can actually get more done—not less."
If I could share only one thing about burnout and life in general, this might be it!
I've hit the wall today after house guests for a week and working. I took the entire week off of Substack because...burnout. It's Saturday night, I'm in pajamas with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. I'm done.
"burnout isn't proof you're working, it's proof that something isn't working". What a mindset shift! For years I lived with the mindset that if it isn't difficult than it's not worth doing, but that couldn't be further from the truth! Finding ways to work WITH myself and my life has been a game changer to fighting burnout. Thanks for sharing!
Some great reminders, and that's a good point about treating it like hygiene instead of a cure. Lowering the bar is one of the things that's helped me the most when it comes to managing my energy and overall mental health. My grandma used to say that "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well," but I've realized that a lot of things worth doing ARE worth doing "poorly" than not at all--whether that's 5 minute of sitting on the yoga mat, washing one dish, or stepping outside for a few minutes. It gets the momentum going, which tends to be the hardest step for me.
Thank you so much for this article. Exactly what I needed to read today, because Burnout is a close friend of mine too. Lowering the bar, efficient lazyness, do nothing moments.... I'm all in!!

i love the fact that everything is in lowercase 🤍 found my people
this is such a fantastic guide… and a much-needed reminder. I’d love some examples about how you use laziness as a tool!!

Thanx for keeping your "stacks" FREE!!✌️💖
YES! So good. When in the world did hobbies become unpaid internships anyway?
