i want to start this off by thanking every single one of you—10,000 people who, for some reason, keep coming back to read my thoughts. i don’t take that lightly. this little corner of the internet has turned into something bigger than i imagined, and i’m grateful. and because of that, i feel like we should talk about something real. something i know all of us are experiencing but rarely acknowledge: the fact that we are never, ever bored anymore.
it hit me the other day when i was waiting for my coffee. i reached for my phone, instinctively, before realizing i had left it in the car. and for two whole minutes—just two minutes—i was left with nothing but my own thoughts. and let me tell you, it felt unnatural. the silence, the lack of input, the absence of a glowing screen feeding me new information every three seconds. i wasn’t even uncomfortable, just… unfamiliar. as if my brain had forgotten how to exist without constant stimulation.
we don’t get bored anymore. not really. and while that sounds like a good thing—yay, entertainment, content, distractions!—it’s actually a little terrifying. because boredom isn’t just the absence of something to do. it’s the space where creativity is born, where ideas take shape, where our brains connect dots in ways they wouldn’t otherwise. and yet, we’ve done everything possible to eliminate it.
